Over the summer my electric bill has soured to new highs.
I had to stop and think about how to get it back
under control.  At the beginning of summer it was $275
and my last bill was $145 that was savings.
This is a list of things that I have done to
control the electric bill.

-    Got rid of every incandescent light in the house.
Changed them out for florescent lights.

-    Lowered the temperature setting on my water
      heater to 125 degrees.

-    Stopped using my electric stove inside the house.
I was cooking while the air condition was
cooling that didn’t make any sense.
I started using my grill and a Coleman stove.

-    Turned off everything when I left a room.

These simple things started to get my electric bill down.

Did you know?
-    Air Conditioner 3.5 Ton in FL uses
      about $4.37/day or $93.12/month

-    Refrigerators (avg) uses about
8 KW  per week and cost about $4.15/month.

-    Stove cost about $6.00/month to run.
Even more if you’re running the air conditioner.

-    Water heater uses about  36 KW per day
      cost about $4.37/day $131.22/month

-    TV set LCD 42 inch uses about 6 KW per week
      and cost about $3.17/month.

-    Portable fan uses 1 KW/wk cost about
      $0.62 / month   $7.59/year to run

-    Clothes Dryer uses about 27 KW/week
and cost about $3.23/week or $13.82/month

All this starts adding up fast.
More on what you haven’t probably considered!
Even when your TV is off it’s actually still running!
If you can use a remote control then the unit is
still using electric power.

Everything using a power supply you have
plugged into a wall outlet is actually using
power all the time. If you touch it and it
feels warm then it’s driving up your electric bill.

Obviously the air condition and hot water heater
are the big consumers of power in most homes.
Working on lowering that power consumption of
these two monsters will get you the biggest
return on your effort to reduce your power bill.

Don’t stop thinking about all the other places you
are using electricity because a kilowatt here and
there over a month adds up and you will have
to pay for it.

Here in Florida I wonder why we don’t
all have solar hot water heaters?

Why doesn’t the government give us
big tax incentives to start using solar power cells?
