Creating a website is pretty easy and with just a
few steps you can have your site up and running.
The first step is to get the name of the website.
You’ll have to decide on the name and check to
see if it is available for you. Examples would be
KarensTreasures.com or TJLawnService.com etc…

Well how do I do that?
Go to http://GoDaddy.com and on the front page you’ll
see a field to fill out with the various website names
you want. Type in the name and search to see if the
name is available for you. GoDaddy will check the name
against a database of names if they don’t find the name
you typed in than you can register that name for yourself.
So if you type in PetesParts.com and the search reveals
that nobody has that name registered than you can have it.

When you find the name you’ll have to register it.
I like GoDaddy.com so I would suggest that you
sign up with GoDaddy and make your purchase
right there.  So; register with GoDaddy and then
purchase the rights to the name you have selected.
The usual cost is about $12.00 per year. You can
register your domain name for 1, 2 .. 10 years.
As you increase the number of years you register
for the lower the price. You cannot register a
name for less than one year.

What’s next?
After you have purchased the domain name
you’ll need to host it somewhere. GoDaddy
will make offers to host your website on their server.
That’s okay and will work fine it’s not that
expensive but if you look around you can find
better deals.

What is hosting?
Hosting is when a company that has space on
a hard drive in their computer system rents
you some of that space. The company’s
computer system is connected to the internet
using fast connection links and is
backed up with at least two redundant systems.
So to make it simple you need to rent some
space on a hosting company’s computer where
you’ll put your website.  The cost is usually around
$50.00 per year. If you search you’ll find the prices
are free to hundreds of dollars per year. The free
hosting services means they’ll put ads all over your
website don’t take these offers if you can
afford your own space.

Technical Info
Now for some technical information that you need
to know to get it working. The hosting company will
have a DNS number (two numbers for two servicers)
that tells the world where they are. These DNS numbers
are like an address and you will have to tell GoDaddy
where you’re are going to host your site using these
DNS numbers.

What to do?
Copy the hosting companies DNS numbers and
then go back to GoDaddy login into
your account and go the domain management.
There you click on your domain name and look for
“Nameservers”. Click on “Set Nameservers” and put
the DNS numbers given to you from your hosting
company. Submit that and that part is done.
It sometimes take up to 24 hours for the internet
system to actually redirect traffic to your new
hosting place but be patient it will get there.

Now you are ready to get your website up and running.
The hosting company control panel where you login
onto the server will have some basic software scripts
that will run on the server and those scripts are free
to use. For a very simple quick website you can install
the blog software script. There are instructions to install
the script but it is as easy as clicking on it.
Once it’s setup log off your server control panel
and go to your domain website name and log in.
At that point you’re in business you’ll have to get
familiar with the software but that shouldn’t be hard.

You can buy websites that are prepackaged
and ready to go. If you know what type of site you want
you can search for that script. You’ll find that
someone has written just about every kind of website
script you could want. Don’t spend lots of money on
these scripts you can buy just about anything for under $100.
There are many sites that give the scripts away free.
Free usually means that the writers are just getting
started and you may find lots of bugs in the software.
Some rules that I have are NEVER BUY ENCRIPTED
SOFTWARE SCRIPTS. Many script writers encrypt their
software and you can’t go in and tweak it. You will
eventually need to tweak you script so only buy
“open source” codes.

I’ll right another article on the various types of
scripts you can purchase next.
